Ssk 950 Gun - The JD Jones .950 JDJ cartridge is commonly described as the largest sporting rifle cartridge ever produced, producing more power than even the 4-barrel cartridges that match it in bore diameter. Only three of these rifles were made, and the initial load was a 2,600-grain (168 g) cast bullet traveling at 2,200 fps (670 m/s), producing a whopping 28,000 foot-pounds (38 kJ). There are anti-tank guns that produce more, but nothing that compares in both power and barrel diameter in the sporting field.
The rifle, called "Fat Mac", is built around McMillan stock and was originally custom built for a customer who wanted a really (really) big rifle that could use cast bullets. Sleeves were originally made from 20mm Vulcan sleeves up to 70mm sleeve lengths (only), and lathe made sleeves replaced them when Vulcan brass sleeves became too hard to find. The rifle itself weighs just over 60 pounds, with nearly a third of that weight in the muzzle brake alone. This example is sold with a whole bunch of ammo components, which is a good thing since Jones/SSK stopped making ammo a few years ago…
